Former Gov. Symington drops Adams, backs Salmon

Saying it was a difficult decision, former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington said he pulled his support from former House Kirk Adams’ congressional campaign and is now backing longtime politician Matt Salmon for the job.
Symington, who served as governor from 1991-97, had joined Adams’ finance committee when the former No.1 man in the House resigned to run for the higher office in April. But by the end of the summer the state’s former chief executive changed his mind.
Symington, a Republican, says he sent a letter in the fall telling Adams that he was pulling his support and backing Salmon, who is a former state lawmaker and congressman. Adams’ campaign did not respond to request for comment and Symington says he never heard back from the campaign.
