Frothing, Insatiable Maw of the War Machine Screaming for More Blood and Treasure
This rhetorical escalation against Iran is being reported as a “bipartisan consensus” to keep “all options on the table.” But that doesn’t mean it is anything but a ruse to pull us into another military conflict in the Middle East. The language is reminiscent of early 2003: “Iran is developing nuclear weapons! We’ve got to stop it now! Otherwise Iran could hand it off to a terrorist!”
How long will it be before someone directly quotes the Bush administration and says, “The smoking gun will be a mushroom cloud”?
This freak-out is infected with politics at every level – fear-mongering is extremely beneficial for right-wing politicians in every country involved in this manufactured crisis, who seek to increase support for militaristic policy by evoking right-wing frames in the minds of their populations.
