Crazy from the Heat

clip_image002

… I wonder when David Lee Roth released … Crazy from the Heat in 1985 … if he might have even remotely been contemplating Arizona 2011 … as surely the effect of Arizona’s dry heat just might explain how and why crazy we have become …

How we are able to laugh and scoff as Joe’s prisoners’ in surplus Army tents are housed with internal temperatures over 145 degrees …

How our Governor and Legislature stand and laugh and do nothing as State Senator Lori Klein from upscale Anthem points her cute pink gun its laser red eye sight firmly affixed on an unarmed citizens chest …

As “King” Russell Pearce and his racist brigade pledge to round up those with “brown” skin … no trial required … just get them the hell out of here …

As an AZ State Senator … Bundgaard punches out his girl friend in the middle of the night … with witnesses galore … and smugly walks away … untouchable is he…

Where an inordinately small spot on Interstate 10 – Quartzsite – becomes viral on the internet … its political escapades the laughing stock of late night TV…

Where on one early January morning in a Tucson grocery parking lot … a lone gunman kills eight … include a federal judge … while critically wounding the Congresswoman just attempting to hear to pleas of her constituents …

Where Governor “Queen” Brewer turns over to her pet/friend … Jerry Colangelo (Phoenix corporate icon we’re suppose to bow down to)  … control of once state administered Dept of Commerce … so he and his friends have something to do … with our money of course …

Where the City of Glendale refuses to disclose … preferring instead to hide behind closed doors … all the while taxing its citizens to make Mayor Elaine Scruggs … Queen for the Day … or is it years … No one will ever know …

Where if you’re poor … of color … invalid … in need of organ transplant … you’re requested to quickly die or immediately leave the state …

Where once industry sought us out … today they reveal … too stupid is your labor force … and relocate or build here they do not …

Where rural Arizona strives to conserve … WATER … while in “metro” Phoenix it runs unused down the street …

Where SRP and CAP … to the environs of the state’s largest “metro” … loudly proclaim WATER is not problem here… and never will be …

Where proudly Maricopa Sheriff Joe proclaims … 30% of my inmates are mentally ill … while more than 80% are affected with STD … but Joe doesn’t cares…  He’ll soon release them … then your problem they become …

Where the fastest growth industry is the building and operation of privately owned prisons … Yes … you too can be employed as a private prison guard … who knows you might even get to guard your son or daughter … gee wouldn’t that be fun …

Crazy … Yes … but it is really from the heat…?

portrait of a shallow, petty, narrow, disingenuous citizenry…

… Could there possibly be a correlation

clip_image002

… between the choices we allow our Governor and Legislature to make in our stead on … funding of education … social services … treating of fellow humans … and a lagging job growth…?

Why would any progressive ethical business choose to locate or operate in a state governed and lead by the miscreants we select and elect…?

The venues in which Arizona sees itself as “leader” present to the world a portrait of a shallow, petty, narrow, disingenuous citizenry…

MEDICARE PREMIUM INCREASE

For those of you who are on Medicare, read the article below. It is about the
monthly amount of money you are going to pay in Medicare premiums in 2011, 2012 and the huge increase you will pay in 2013. It’s a short but important article:

Congress will not allow an increase in the Social Security COLA (cost
of living adjustment); however, the per person monthly Medicare
insurance premium will be increased from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to

$104.20 in 2012
, $120.20 for the year 2013 AND increases to a
wonderful
$247.00 in 2014
.

Congress also gave themselves a $3,000 a month Cost of Living Adjustment!

Send this to all seniors that you know. So they will know who’s
throwing them under the bus.

ARIZONA PHYSICIANS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

LET’S MOVE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT SAFETY FORWARD NOW

by Dr. Barbara Warren on Jul. 21, 2011 …  http://tucsoncitizen.com/arizona-physicians-for-social-responsibility/2011/07/21/lets-move-nuclear-power-plant-safety-forward-now/

The disastrous chain of events at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Facility, following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, have given us a critical warning and an unprecedented opportunity. We have heeded the warning and taken steps to review our own nuclear power facilities and work in every way possible to prevent such a disaster in this country and elsewhere. The NRC has undergone a task force  review of the 101 nuclear power plants in the US and prepared their report.

This week, the NRC’s Near-Term Task Force, which reviewed the ongoing Fukushima nuclear disaster for lessons to improve safety at US nuclear reactors, presented its recommendations to the whole Nuclear Regulatory Commission. While these recommendations are not perfect and much more needs to be done, they are a starting point and should be acted upon as quickly as possible by the NRC.

Despite the documentation of multiple lapses in assuring safety at plants, the nuclear industry has already come out swinging in opposition, claiming that there isn’t enough known about the Fukushima accident to make any changes to our regulations. If the Nuclear Regulatory Commission votes to adopt these recommendations, there will be opportunities for stakeholders – including the public and the nuclear industry – to weigh in.  Yet, two of the five NRC Commissioners have already voted to punt these recommendations to NRC staff for further review, essentially burying the recommendations in endless bureaucracy. (See statements by 2 of the NRC commissioners below)

Commissioner Svinicki’s vote can be found at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/commission/cvr/2011/2011-0093vtr-kls.pdf

Commissioner Magwood’s vote can be fount at  http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/commission/cvr/2011/2011-0093vtr-wdm.pdf

This move is shameful because it is so dangerous to our public health and safety.  The industry is claiming that it is rash to do such basic things as “reevaluate and upgrade as necessary the design-basis seismic and flooding protection” at operating reactors.

The NRC must vote to move forward expeditiously with improving nuclear power plant safety for our Nation.    Anything less would be abdicating its job of protecting public health and safety.

out to pasture …

… From where I stand … Trent Franks is but the tip of the iceberg which Arizona voters ought to consider disclosing and removing … how about Jeff Flake … (trust me, I’m one of you, but I am owned by the mine$) … “King” Russell Pearce and his consort “queenie” Gov. Brewer … and State Senators Lori Klein and her cute pink gun … and State Senator Scott Bundgaard … and for God’s sake turn McCain out to pasture …

Arizona can’t rid itself of these fools soon enough

Looks like Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) has been hitting the Kool-Aid pretty hard of late. The Hill blog reports Tuesday: Five hours of debate on ‘cut, cap and balance’ this comment from Franks on Monday night:

House Republicans spoke on the floor Monday night in favor of the bill, and continued to express their frustration at the Obama administration’s threatened veto of the legislation.

"The president has the hubris to tell conservative Republicans to take a balanced approach and eat our peas," said Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), referencing President Obama’s comments last week.

"If there is anything more catastrophically out of balance than our federal budget, it is the arrogance-to-competency ratio of this White House," he said.

Franks has been in Congress since 2003. If I recall correctly, he supported the reckless and fiscally irresponsible policies of George W. Bush and his Republican cohorts who went on a spend-and-borrow binge when they were in control of Congress and the White House, responsible for this:
