Indian farmers have been robbed of their livelihoods, causing them to take their own lives in despair.

Over the past 16 years, it is estimated that more than a quarter of a million Indian farmers have committed suicide.

Who is responsible for this tragedy?   …. The most obvious culprits are global corporations like Monsanto, Cargill and Syngenta and the genetically engineered seed they have forced upon farmers worldwide.

None are hit harder than those in India, where socioeconomic and environmental factors have magnified the impact, making it almost impossible for these farmers to survive.

In fact, genetically engineered seeds are so fundamental to the problem that it’s been termed "GM Genocide."ii

The rate of Indian farmer suicides has greatly increased since the introduction of Bt cotton in 2002iii.

This is not a pleasant subject to read about, but it is a necessary one… one that can help you understand why it’s so important to continue fighting seed monopolies with ever-increased resolve.

I experienced the Indian farmers’ plight firsthand while spending two weeks in India, where I saw for myself the devastating effects of GM seed upon the lives and livelihoods of these rural farmers.

I worked closely with Organic India, a company helping more than 150,000 farmers change back to time-honored methods of producing high quality plants and herbs. If you have any doubts about the dire global implications of GM crops, the plight of these farmers should put those doubts to rest.

Supreme Court upholds jail strip searches, including for minor offenses

Justices Approve Strip-Searches for Any Offense

Adam Liptak, The New York Times News Service: "About 13 million people are admitted each year to the nation’s jails, Justice Kennedy wrote. Under Monday’s ruling, he wrote, ‘every detainee who will be admitted to the general population may be required to undergo a close visual inspection while undressed.’ Justice Stephen G. Breyer, writing for the four dissenters, said strip-searches were ‘a serious affront to human dignity and to individual privacy’ and should be used only when there was good reason to do so."

Horne accused of breaking laws in 2010 campaign

PHOENIX (AP) — An elections complaint accuses Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne of violating Arizona law by coordinating some of his 2010 campaign’s efforts with an independent committee that attacked his general-election opponent.

The complaint filed in February by a lawyer in Horne’s office and released on Monday alleges that Horne worked with a campaign consultant and others to arrange a $115,000 contribution from his brother-in-law to Business Leaders For Arizona. State law prohibits coordination between campaigns and independent expenditure committees.

The complaint, first revealed in a story by the Arizona Capitol Times, also alleges that Horne broke the law in giving a supporter who is accused of illegally coordinating between the campaign and the committee a job after the election.

Horne denies the allegations and said the employee who filed the complaint is disgruntled.
Horne defeated Democrat Felecia Rotellini in November 2010 to become the state’s attorney general. After winning the Republican primary by a thin margin, Horne faced a brutal general-election race in which Rotellini criticized the decades-old revocation of Horne’s license to sell securities and Horne accused Rotellini of having scant trial experience.
