After months of sparring over how to manage Arizona’s share of Colorado River water, the state’s two big public water agencies have announced they’re ready to talk it out. The Arizona Department of Water Resources and the Central Arizona Water Conservation District issued a joint statement last week declaring their intention to work together toward an interstate conservation agreement known as the DCP, or drought contingency plan

 

Colorado River water outlook remains grim

The outlook for the most important river in the Southwestern U.S. remains grim this summer after April storms failed to produce much snow in the mountains that feed the waterway, forecasters said. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the Colorado River is expected to carry only 43 percent of the average amount of water into Lake Powell, the fifth-lowest forecast in 54 years.
