According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, the Texas State Board of Education on Friday issued a preliminary vote to sharply cut back the social studies curriculum in the state.

One major change is the elimination of required teaching about Hillary Clinton:

As part of an effort to "streamline" the social studies curriculum in Texas, the State Board of Education voted on Friday to change what students in every grade are required to learn in the classroom. They approved the removal of several historical figures, including Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller.

corporate owned … no mandatory

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has failed again, this time missing the deadline to finalize the GMO food labeling law which passed in 2016. The 2016 law required that the GMO food labeling regulations be finished by two years after its enactment, which was July 29, 2018.

In response, Center for Food Safety (CFS) recently filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration for failing to meet this deadline. And CFS also just moved for a Court Order requiring the rules be issued within 60 days.

We’ve waited for decades for GMO foods to be labeled. President Trump, USDA Secretary Perdue, and their corporate lobbyists seem to want to indefinitely delay these rules and keep you in the dark. Working together, we won’t permit this delay – we will demand clear GMO labels, now.

We won’t stop fighting for your right to learn the truth about how your food was produced. CFS has been fighting for mandatory GE food labeling for over two decades at the federal and state levels, work that helped lead to the passage of the 2016 federal law. In addition to writing model legislation used to create GE labeling rule on a federal level, CFS also wrote model legislation that has been used in dozens of state legislation efforts, including California, Washington, Connecticut, and Maine. CFS filed a legal petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that garnered more than 1.2 million of your comments in support of mandatory GMO food labeling nationwide. And last year, CFS won a lawsuit over USDA’s failure to publicly release a critical study related to the use of electronic or digital disclosures for GE foods. The USDA study showed that major segments of Americans, including disproportionately rural, minority, elderly, and low income Americans, would not have sufficient access to this form of disclosure.
